Bad Jelly the Witch - by Spike Milligan.
Tee hee hee! New Zealand’s favourite witch is back in print again. Her name is
BADJELLY and she can turn children into sausages or chop them up to make
boy-girl soup. Sometimes she turns policemen into apple trees, and bananas into
mice! She is the wickedest witch in all the world.
Spike Milligan’s scary fairy story has been reprinted especially for New Zealand
following public demand. My own daughters were part of the public fascinated by
this story; they had the book and the cassette tape and almost wore both out.
England - By Kaitlyn (Room 6)
If I could explore any country in the world I would explore England!
Firstly, England has some very fancy buildings and some nice cars.
Secondly, they have cool tours and some nice rides.
Thirdly, there’s the Queen’s Palace I’d like to meet the Queen too.
Finally, there’s the candy I’d also like to try some the different lollies!
That’s why I want to go to England.

My Rabbit - By Jayden
A long time ago I had a rabbit. He died a long time ago. It’s sad when animals
die. I fed my rabbit apples.
How To Look After A Dog - By Raina
You have to feed a dog and give it water. If your dog is young you have to visit
the vet to give it worm pills, an injection, flea treatment and a micro chip.
Puppies need care and love so they can live. When your puppy grows up it needs a
collar, lead and a tag. Your dog has to be trained and exercised every day. Your
puppy needs shelter. Your dogs needs a bath and to be groomed.
How To Care For A Dog - By Taine
A dog is really special . A dog needs water and food so he won’t die. A dog
needs care from the vet and injections and medicine. A dog needs love and care
so when she has a puppy she will love and care for it. A puppy needs exercise. A
dog needs shelter so he won’t die or get cold. You need a bed for your dog so it
can sleep. These are my reasons why a dog is really special.
My Dog Toby - By Joshua
My dog Toby is black and white. He sleeps all day. He guards the door and sleeps
on my bed. He gets into the rubbish bin.
How To Look After A Dog - By Belinda
A young dog is called a puppy. A puppy needs love and care because if you love
your puppy and care for it properly it will grow into a happy healthy dog. It
also needs water and food because if it doesn’t have food and water it will die.
It needs a collar because if it doesn’t it might go to the pound. A dog needs
shelter when it is hot. A dog needs toys.
My Pet Snoopy - By Isabella
My pet Snoopy is black and white. When he is happy he wants to play with me. My
dog is trained and when I tell him something to do he does it. When I tell him
to get the ball he gets it.
My Pet Dog - By Beyonce
My pet dog is brown and has a little bit of white on its back. It is fluffy and
has blue eyes. He always jumps up on me whenever I am by him. He always licks me
when I am near him. He is a kind and happy dog. He is the best dog ever because
he is always near me and I love him.
Room 6 News - Mrs Pufflet
Room 6 students have been doing persuasive writing.
Prices - By Tanirau
I think prices are too high for food and power and it’s too much money for
people to pay.
Firstly, high prices might make people poor because it’s too much money for
power, food and other things you buy.
Secondly, prices get higher nearly every year. More money is spent when they get
higher.
Last of all, you might get too skinny and have no food or homes and die. Most of
the people want to live, not die.
I think prices should stay the same as they were so everyone who has money can
buy food and other unique things.
Pets - By Sam
I think everyone should have a pet. Like me, I have 5 dogs, 3 chickens, 1
rabbit, 2 calves, 10 cows, 2 kittens, 1 cat and 6 horses.
Firstly, you can take them for walks. I take my dogs out for an hour or two. You
should take your pets out for an hour or two (only dogs and horses).
Secondly, you can play with your pets. I play with my dogs by letting them chase
my soccer ball. You should play with your pets for half an hour (not chickens).
Lastly, you can make beds for your pets. I let my dogs sleep in my bed. You
should make your pets bed comfy (only kittens, cats, dogs and rabbit).
So that’s why I think you should have a pet.
Dogs - By Eli
I think everyone should have a dog.
Firstly, you could have fun playing with it.
Secondly it could help you if you ever become blind.
Finally, it could be a guard dog and scare anything that comes at night.

Reflection
As we begin the new term and the month of August we all heave a sigh of relief.
The days are getting longer, the weather, most days, is not as cold and there
are signs of spring. It
Reminds us of new life. It is a time for renewal as nature begins to wake up
from a time of dormancy. We all need to look to spiritual renewal and our
worshipping community would welcome your presence if you would like to be part
of us.
On Sunday 22 August we welcome representatives from Dilworth School - part of
the Choir, the School Chaplain and Principal. Dilworth will be very much part of
our community in the future as the rural campus in Lyons Road open in 18 months
time. You would be welcome to join us.
With best wishes
The Rev’d Bruce Owen
A Note from Mr J…..
After a two week break, school is back and term three is underway.
As is the case with every term this one is shaping up to be a busy one. The
major difference this year from previous years is that our annual showday is
being held earlier. Saturday 25th September, which is the first Saturday of the
holidays, is this year’s date. The showday committee have already begun planning
and
organising events. I am looking forward to taking part in my first showday as
Principal and rumour has it that I will need a change of clothes for the dunk
tank!!
The children are busy training for this year’s cross country which will take
place at the McRobbie’s farm on Thursday 5th August. I would like to thank the
McRobbies for once again allowing us to use their property. In class this term
the focus is on Technology and how it has changed our lives. Classes will be
looking at
different aspects, covering everything from toys to phones.
The Board of Trustees have recently reviewed our 5 year property plan and are
thrilled that we will be able to start work this term on some upgrades and
repairs. Some of the older classrooms will get a makeover with new carpet, wall
linings and a paint job. We will also be making repairs to the library roof
which currently has indoor / outdoor flow in heavy rain!!
COMMUNITY NEWS
On the next rainy day (not that I’m wishing for one) here
is something for you to ponder……
……if wool shrinks in the wash, why don’t sheep shrink in the rain?
Have a great month!

A WORD FROM OUR MP LINDSAY TISCH
This latest recess has given me the chance to catch up with constituents and
events in the electorate as well as being privileged to represent New Zealand at
the Presiding Officers and Clerks of the Pacific Conference in Darwin. This
Conference was particularly relevant to my role as the Deputy Speaker of the New
Zealand House of Representatives.
At the Conference I presented a paper on the NZ Youth Parliament. Statistics
show that young people are less likely to vote than older citizens. An Electoral
Commission research paper of young non-voters suggests that motivation to vote
and knowledge are key factors in participation. The first opportunity to vote is
critical. If this first opportunity is not taken, the likelihood of
participating in elections later in life is significantly reduced.
With Local Body elections taking place later this year and a General Election to
be held in late 2011, now is the time to be talking to our young people about
participation in the democratic process.
Constituents wishing to make contact with me or to arrange an appointment to see
me can do so by calling Toni at 07 826 4198 in my Te Kauwhata Office.

Tennis
HOWA Series Mens Doubles Competition
Well done to the tenacious Thornies (Bevan & John) to retain the Howa Series
title and hang onto the well sort after Horn trophy.
There were some mighty battles played out on the finals night with a strange
sense of quiet and concentration taking place of the usual jocular activity.
Once again, great play and well done to all those involved.....Roll on the
Spring Tournament
Even though the nights are chilly and there is a tad of rain about, tennis is
still happening for those ones keen enough to brave the elements.
If you happened to notice that the club has some new funky COLOURED outside
sensor lights, don't worry it hasn't been turned into a disco-nightclub,
Catherine's family and friends were just celebrating Maria's 21st in true tennis
fashion...Great Effort!!
New members always welcome.
Club night on Wednesdays from 7pm onwards.
Cheerz Brian
It would be fair to say that the Rafa-man is well and truly back after he most
recently claimed Wimbledon after the French...GO HARD RAFAEL!
Netball
I have watched some amazing netball on T.V in the past weeks. The ANZ
Championship which saw the mighty Waikato - Bay of Plenty Magic fight their way
into the grand finals, to then unfortunately go down by 10 goals to the Aussies.
Pokeno has got 4 netball teams and our little kiwi team is dominating their
games on Friday nights and will hopefully win their grade (no pressure girls)
and the big excitement is that I can I see our 2 junior teams maybe making their
respective finals if they keep their fighting spirit going. Keep it up girls and
we all will be watching this space….
Our Moas have had a couple of injuries but are back on track with even trainings
happening on a Wednesday. Enjoy ladies and we all hope you have some “magic”
games.
